Richie Barr, Bass
Bassist Richie Barr from Kingston, Jaimaica, has been a part of the Live Hymnal family since 2009. He brings high energy, versatility and joy for life to every note and every performance. Richie’s resume is mind-blowing. Here’s a small sampling: Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Cliff, Freddy McGregor, Maxi Priest, Diana King, Rising Lion, Marijah, Jah Rocks… He has toured the world many times over and has shared the stage with the likes of Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, George Benson, Prince and Dave Matthews. Richie had a passion for music from birth. At the age of 17 he got his first bass guitar and before he was out of high school he was already the band-leader of the Rhythm Aces. Under the tutelage of pioneer teacher, Lenny Hibbert, he developed quickly as a versatile, in-demand player. Richie honed his craft during his days with Tony Dacosta of the Skatellites singing and performing in hotel circuit in Jamaica. Richie has so many stories. We still don’t know how he got to America but we think it was when Stevie Wonder brought him to LA in the 80’s. Richie is larger than life and we are so fortunate to have him and his great, big, loving vibes and cross-genre stylings inside our music. We love Richie Barr!!
